Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a natural mineral that is found in most foods and water. Fluoride, for over fifty years, has been proven to help fight and even reverse the process of tooth decay caused by acids, plaque and bacteria that regularly are hurting your tooth enamel.

In our practice, we have the option of adding to the fluoride you receive (in your food, water and toothpaste). We have the option of providing you treatment by painting on the extra fluoride, or having you briefly ware a mouth guard.

Fluoride Treatment can certainly be beneficial for infants and children, from the ages of 6 months to 16 years. However, adults can highly benefit from fluoride treatment as well. In recent studies, it was found that topical fluoride – from toothpastes, mouth rinses and in-practice treatments are just as important in fighting tooth decay as in strengthening and developing teeth.

Certain people may be more susceptible to tooth decay and tooth decay is strongly recommended for all patients, especially this percentage of the population. We recommend that you take the time to speak with Dr. Dykstra about possible fluoride treatments with you and your office.
